Axial Spondyloarthritis

Around 5.5 million Americans have axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), an inflammatory form of arthritis that is associated with chronic lower back pain. Axial spondyloarthritis is an umbrella term for types of inflammatory arthritis that primarily affect the spine and the sacroiliac (SI) joints that connect the lower spine to the pelvis, resulting in pain in the lower back, hips, and buttocks. The two subtypes of axSpA are non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS).
