Forced into early retirement due to psoriatic arthritis, Layne Martin, RN, starts a new page in her life writing for Creakyjoints in her blog, “Sidelined Nurse.” After working for over 30 years in the health care profession, it never occurred to Layne that she would someday be faced with medical treatment that was not affordable.  Besides chronicling her own journey, Layne hopes to advocate for others with arthritis and affordable medications.

Jennifer Scheid, MD, is a physician who is newly-diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. A self-described multi-tasking, have-it-all mother, Jennifer will write about how her driven, type-A life was brought to an abrupt halt by RA and the gradual acceptance of her diagnosis in her blog, “Physician, Heal Thyself.” While Jennifer will write about her own journey, as a physician she would also like to offer fellowship with others similarly afflicted.

Lawrence ‘Rick’ Phillips, Ed.D

A retired Indiana educator who loves humor and adjectives, Lawrence ‘Rick’ Phillips, Ed.D will write about living life with RA and diabetes in his new blog for CreakyJoints, “Rick Totally RAD.” Rick, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 16 after he became ill at Disney World, and with RA at 42, not long after he was unable to bend his legs to get into his son’s  brand new Pontiac Trans Am muscle car,  hopes to give CreakyJoints members a reason to think—and laugh.
