Leslie was diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis in 2008 at the age of 22. She received a PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan in 2013, and is currently pursuing a Master of Health Advocacy degree from Sarah Lawrence College. Leslie has interned with The Global Healthy Living Foundation and in the Patient Advocacy department at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and is currently working part-time there in the Patient Advocacy Department. She aspires to a career in patient advocacy and hopes to work to improve the experience of chronically ill students in higher education. She is the author of the blog Getting Closer To Myself and writes for Health Central’s RA section, CreakyJoints, and RheumatoidArthritis.net.
