Elizabeth is a 24 year-old Spanish-English bilingual psychology student from New York City. She was first diagnosed with JRA at age 13. Her parents, who had emigrated from the Dominican Republic, thought her symptoms were just something that happened to bones. Around the time Elizabeth’s activity was starting to be limited, she became a college student. She got more involved in her own diagnosis and treatment, finally receiving a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis. She went from not knowing anything to wanting to learn more and support others with arthritis. In addition to being a student, she is primarily a patient educator at a rheumatology clinic in Harlem as well as being cross trained in several other tasks.
