CreakyJoints, in partnership with rheumatology investigators at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), will soon launch a mobile application called Arthritis Power. This exciting new app will let arthritis patients donate their data at least once a month to the patient-powered research registry called “Arthritis Power,” helping researchers to better understand arthritis from the patients’ perspective.
Participants will be able to download the Arthritis Power ™ app on a smartphone or iPad—or access via the Web. The Arthritis Power research network will then collect information directly from patients, a process called Patient Reported Outcome (PRO). Scientists at UAB will use the patient-reported data to assess the efficacy of different treatments.
The Arthritis Power project has the stamp of approval of the UAB Institutional Review Board (IRB). An IRB is an ethics panel that reviews all proposed research to ensure the protection of human subjects involved in a study.
Arthritis Power was created by CreakyJoints in 2014 in collaboration with rheumatology researchers at UAB. Twelve CreakyJoints members serve as arthritis Patient Governors to lead and monitor the network’s research activities.
The network is funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and is part of PCORnet, a distributed research network of 29 Patient Powered Research Networks and Clinical Data Research Networks.
