Leslie Harrold, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Orthopedics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, as well as Senior Medical Director of Pharmacoepidemiology and Outcomes Research at Corrona, LLC. She is a board-certified rheumatologist and outcomes researcher, who has received both federal and foundation funding resulting in over 80 peer reviewed publications. Dr. Harrold has extensive experience using registry and administrative data to examine comparative effectiveness, quality of care and patient safety in patients with rheumatic conditions.
When asked, “Why is patient-centered and patient-powered research necessary in order to advance our understanding of rheumatological conditions?”, Dr. Harrold responded,
“In order to truly improve care, we need to listen to patients. They are the ones who are the experts on their disease and responsible for managing their condition on a daily basis. It is only through the involvement of patients in the design and conduct of research that our efforts will meaningfully improve the outcomes of medical care.”
