According to a study reported on by MedPage Today, the number of patients with psoriasis who then go on to develop psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is much higher than previously estimated, which researchers note suggests a significant number of psoriasis patients suffer from PsA without knowing.

Through the analysis, risk factors for PsA were significantly associated with psoriasis severity, systemic retinoid use, and a low education level. The article reports there was no association for other variables such as family history, obesity, and use of anti-tumor necrosis factor therapies.
