According to MedPage Today, researchers at Western Reserve University in London, Ontario found patients with RA and fibromyalgia have worse quality of life and less ability to function than those with RA alone.

Study researchers noted it may be helpful to regularly assess chronic pain among RA patients. “Formal assessment of fibromyalgia characteristics in RA patients may be beneficial and it may identify a subgroup of patients who are more likely to experience further worsening in functional status over time,” said study investigator Hyein Kim, MD.

Study findings were presented at the American College of Rheumatology annual meeting last week.
