Though six years of follow-up among patients with hip osteoarthritis (OA), researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found a difference in the way the condition affects African Americans and Caucasians.

According to MedPage Today, the multiple-year study found that the African American patients in the study tended to have more pronounced disability, while the Caucasian patients had more radiographic progression of the disease. The researchers noted that there is an “unmet need” among the African American patient population given the worsening disability in this group.
