Study findings published in Arthritis Research & Therapy suggests that gout is associated with heart dysfunction, specifically left ventricular diastolic dysfunction. This means there is an abnormality in how the heart fills with blood during a specific phase of the heartbeat.

According to MD Magazine online, which reported on the study, “the finding is important, because the connections between gout and cardiovascular events are well known and thoroughly studied, but still not well-understood.”
