With our tummies full of turkey, we have officially ushered in the season of giving!
This year, when thinking of what to give someone you love who suffers from arthritis, here are a few fun gifts to keep in mind.
Giving the gift of warmth
One of the most common pain triggers for arthritis suffers is cold. No matter what part of your body is affected by arthritis, cold can cause an increase in pain and bad days. There are wonderful ways to combat that! So this year, give the gift of warmth! This can be done in many ways depending on what’s needed. You can give a heated blanket, a heating pad, a back pillow that’s heated, reusable hand warmers, or more! My personal favorite are actually made as a beauty product, but I like to use them on my hands. They’re heated mitts!
Giving the gift of comfort
When you suffer from arthritis, it can be hard to get comfortable. Ergonomics and pillows become a very important part of your life. I personally have three lumbar pillows: one I keep at work, one in my bedroom, and one at my desk at home. It’s always the first thing I grab when I start to pack for a trip, too. So consider giving some comfort this year. Depending on what part of the body is affected, there are all kinds of options: lumbar pillows, body pillows, pillow wedges, pillows to elevate your legs, pillows to properly support your neck. The list goes on and on! This lumbar pillow is actually my favorite because you can incorporate hot and cold therapy right on the problem area.
Giving the gift of relaxation
Arthritis is stressful on the body, and despite what most people know, it can also affect the skin and nails/toenails. It’s a real bummer, I’m not going to lie. This is why spa services are super awesome gifts! Think massages, scrubs, manicures, and pedicures. Relaxation and pampering are wonderful gifts to give.
Giving the gift of luxury
Luxury is always a good thing to give. When you have arthritis, life can become a little overwhelmingly practical. Life gets expensive. Luxury is the first to go. This can come in many different packages depending on the person, but here are just a few options: gift cards for a dinner out, gift cards for a maid service, tickets to an event, a trip somewhere wonderful. The options are endless.
With all gifts, it’s always the thought that counts. Here’s to the season of giving! Happy holidays!
