I am the biggest fan of fair weather. Now that spring has sprung, and summer is on our doorstep, there are an abundance of reasons to get outside, which feels great!
But when you have arthritis, there is one outdoor activity which complicates that sunny Sunday afternoon: the picnic!
For 30 years I have tried (unsuccessfully) to get comfortable sitting on the ground to enjoy a picnic. Inevitably, I wind up laying down on my stomach like a putz, since something starts hurting five minutes after I spread out the blanket.
I’m also usually the guy who lugs all of the “accoutrement” out into the middle of Central Park, and the weight of a picnic (before drinks and food are consumed) is usually enough to make any back hurt, which is a disadvantage.

The last thing I want to do is complain about anything outdoors — since it feels so good to get outside — but this summer I’m going to change things up with a lawn chair and the request that YOU bring the drinks (I like my wine dry and white).
