This vacation was a fun one. Jill Zarin – of Real Housewive’s glory – and her family invited me to come along on their family vacation to Aruba. I feel like I’m practically family – all of us have a form of arthritis or another, between Ally and her Spondylarthritis and Jon and his STILL’s, and we all stuck together.
One might wonder what it’s like to go on vacation with Jill Zarin. Well, in a word, fun. We had a great time ringing in the New Year together and the family was heaps of fun to hang out with.
There was one little catch: I was totally incapacitated all week – because of two torn ligaments in my foot. I’m not sure how it happened, but the whole time I was away I was unable to walk. Like really bad stuff – limping around or hopping on one foot. While the white sandy beaches of Aruba are filled with doctors, I had a hard time locating one to treat my foot (but dentists there seemed to be a plenty…). I think the pinnacle of pathetic, if I may identify one, was after the New Years celebration everyone wanted to go hang out in the casino. Unfortunately, that was just too far for me to walk, so instead I went back to the room. Except by the time I schlepped all the way up there, I realized that I didn’t have my room key. And by that time, I made the executive decision to lay down on the floor of the hallway and “rest my eyes” until someone else came home. A moment (or hour) later, I hear from all the way down the hall “who is thaaaaat????” and was awoken and let into my room by Jill and co. Good thing, I would have had a bum foot and a stiff neck had I spent any more time outside.
Jill remains a good friend of the organization and I’m glad to know her. I hope everyone feels good this year. That’s all we wished for: health and happiness.
From our families to yours – Happy New Year!
