Eat It, Pain

This weekend was a reminder of how to balance all of my should-do’s and have-to’s with my must-do’s.
I resolved ahead of time to kick off my weekend with a date to see “It Might Get Loud” with my boyfriend. (This is my new fave movie and, if you love anything about rock music, run to the cinema to see it!)
Fridays are notoriously tough for me — the inner Kristin who thinks she’s healthy wants to kick off the weekend with drinks with friends … but my joints, muscles, and lower back want to lie in a hot tub … and my brain wants to shut down and go to sleep.
Despite breakthrough pain that sizzled through my body throughout the movie, the early start time and the rock n’ roll made famous by Led Zeppelin, U2, and Jack White made the pain — I dare say — worth it. It was a perfectly pain-ridden — but inspired — bliss-filled start to my weekend. Certainly not the way any of my friends would choose to start their weekend, but it was a perfectly Kristin 2.0 way.
I managed to squeeze more activities — and more must-do’s — into this weekend than I have in a long time: coffee with a girlfriend, birthday party with friends, lots of important errands (like my flu shot), and some fun ones like Halloween costume shopping and the all-important “rest” that I so often forget to schedule.
When I’m feeling rundown or sick, I tend to shut down and shut my must-do’s out of my life. I must see my girlfriends. I must go to movies that will bring me joy.

I must go on dates with my boyfriend. I must make time to plan for and celebrate my favorite holidays. I must bake cupcakes. I must take breaks. I must repeat these must-dos, lest I forget them.
