I’m a guy with RA. There aren’t many of us, but we’re around. I don’t have arthritis in my feet, but I love to wear cross training shoes instead of hard shoes to work. People didn’t say anything until one day I mentioned that I didn’t have arthritis in my feet, but I just feel better wearing cross trainers. From then on, co-workers have been dropping hints that I should start to wear proper shoes to work. What do you think?
This doesn’t sound like much of a dilemma to me. Take your coworkers’ advice.
I can’t be sure what kind of occupation you have, but if they are specifying the need for hard shoes, get hard shoes! You’re taking a gamble with your wellbeing, and if you have a physically demanding job where your feet come into play (let’s say to walk), you’re risking your and possibly your family’s livelihood.
Additionally, have you taken a look at hard shoes and boots lately? I know work boots/shoes have come a long way in terms of comfort.
For someone with Rheumatoid Arthritis, you shouldn’t be willing to put your comfort over safety when it comes to your wellbeing.
